About the Summit

A gathering built for this moment.

This November 16–19th in Washington, D.C., American Policy Ventures is hosting Summit 250 — an invite-only gathering of leading philanthropists, major foundations, U.S. Senators, and Members of Congress for a series of off-the-record discussions on how we can get big things done in the next Congress.

We will hear directly from Democratic and Republican Members of Congress on:

  • The midterms, and what the results portend for legislative dynamics on Capitol Hill
  • Which policy areas are most ripe for bipartisan collaboration in the coming 2–4 years
  • How philanthropists, donors, and foundations can engage effectively in DC right now
  • What interventions will most help Members of Congress break through polarization and solve problems

We'll also focus on critical policy issues including energy policy, AI, economic mobility, government effectiveness, scientific research, wildfire prevention, foster care, global aid, defense modernization, the national debt, and more.

Invite-only · Off the record · This invitation is non-transferable

Who's Participating

A deliberately curated room.

We curate for substantive engagement: people who give seriously, people who legislate seriously, and people who can be candid with one another.

U.S. Senators from both parties — with a particular focus on those likely to play a pivotal role in passing bipartisan legislation in the years ahead

House Members from both parties

Chiefs of Staff from both parties

Leading individual philanthropists

Heads of institutional philanthropies and private foundations

Major family offices, founders, CEOs, and business leaders

From the President

A note of invitation, and why we are hosting this now.

Now in its 250th year, America stands at an inflection point.

On the one hand, rising political polarization and performative partisanship threaten to undermine our capacity for self-government, problem-solving, and national progress.

On the other hand, there are two important reasons for genuine optimism. Across the country, there is a growing constellation of ambitious philanthropists, leading foundations, family offices, CEOs, and other major donors who seek to leverage pragmatic bipartisanship as a vehicle to achieve impact and progress for America. And on Capitol Hill, there is a quiet-yet-powerful network of serious Senators and Members of Congress who actually want to work together across partisan lines to achieve results and get big things done.

Summit 250 is purpose-built to bring these two cohorts — the philanthropists and the lawmakers — together. This November in DC, just after the midterm elections, we will gather in an intimate, off-the-record, and invite-only setting to learn, strategize, spark new connections, and chart the way forward.

We'll hear directly from Democratic and Republican Members of Congress on:

  • The midterms, and what its results portend for legislative dynamics on Capitol Hill
  • Which policy areas are most ripe for bipartisan collaboration and progress in the coming 2–4 years
  • How philanthropists, donors, and foundations can engage effectively in DC in this current environment
  • What interventions will most help Members of Congress break through polarization and solve problems

We'll also have the opportunity to meet and spend time with the next generation of under-the-radar bipartisan pragmatists in the Senate and House — the ones who are going to be getting big things done outside of the media spotlight in the years ahead.

We are intentionally curating this year's group of participants, to make this summit our most impactful one yet. We hope you will join us.

Questions

Frequently asked.

A few of the things prospective attendees most often want to know.

i.

Who can attend, and who will be in the room?

Summit 250 is invite-only. The room is composed of major American philanthropists alongside sitting Members of Congress from both parties — by design, a small, deliberately balanced group. We curate for substantive engagement: people who give seriously, people who legislate seriously, and people who can be candid with one another.

ii.

Is the convening recorded or livestreamed?

No. The entire summit will be off-the-record. Nothing said in the room is attributed publicly, and there is no press in attendance. That confidentiality is what makes the candor possible.

iii.

Where exactly is Summit 250 held?

Summit 250 is held in Washington, DC, with programming occurring across Capitol Hill and the Wharf. We'll kick off Monday evening on the Wharf; Tuesday, we'll be in a rooftop penthouse directly overlooking the Capitol Dome; Wednesday, we'll be in the Members Room at the Library of Congress; and Thursday morning, we'll return to the Wharf. Throughout the four days, we'll also have offsite dinners at DC's best restaurants and breakout sessions at APV's Private Capitol Hideaway.

iv.

Where should I stay?

For guests traveling from out of town, we recommend staying at The Pendry on the Wharf, which will serve as our home base throughout Summit 250. Reserve a room in our block at The Pendry → There is an abundance of other excellent hotels on the Wharf as well.

v.

There are philanthropists in my network who I think would enjoy this. Can I invite them?

Spots are very limited. If you have folks in mind who you think would be strong additions, please email APV's Chief of Staff, Matthew Diaz, at matthew@apventures.org. Tell us their name, institutional affiliation (if applicable), and why you think they would be a fit. Thank you!

vi.

Can 501(c)(3) private foundations participate?

Yes. Programming is designed and conducted to be fully 501(c)(3) compliant.
